Hoya latifolia ‘Albomarginata Round Leaf’ is a refined variegated clone of Hoya latifolia G.Don, known for nearly circular leaves edged in creamy white or faint pink. Unlike elongated macrophylla-type forms, this cultivar keeps its rounded silhouette even under bright conditions, creating a balanced, architectural display.
Native to the humid forests of Southeast Asia, Hoya latifolia grows epiphytically on trees or limestone surfaces, absorbing filtered light and consistent humidity. The “Round Leaf” form combines this natural poise with the bold contrast of pale margins and deep green venation – ideal for anyone who prefers sculptural calm over chaotic variegation.
Described botanically as Hoya latifolia G.Don (Gen. Hist. 4: 293, 1837), this species is distributed across Thailand, Malaysia and Indonesia. It grows epiphytically in shaded, humid rainforest environments at low to mid elevations, where temperatures remain moderate year-round and seldom drop below 15 °C.
The “Round Leaf” variant is a horticultural selection known for more circular foliage and balanced variegation – not a wild taxon, but a stable cultivated form valued by collectors worldwide.
Provide bright, indirect light or filtered sun. As a guide, aim for around 200–400 µmol m⁻² s⁻¹ PPFD (DLI 8–12). Dim light mutes variegation, while intense midday rays can scorch leaf edges, especially on pale tissue.
Keep days between 18–26 °C and nights between 16–20 °C. Short dips to around 14 °C are tolerated if the root zone stays on the dry side.
Maintain 60–80 % RH. Steady humidity keeps variegation crisp and reduces the risk of dry, browned edges.
Let the top 3–4 cm of substrate dry before watering deeply. Always drain excess water completely and avoid waterlogged soil, as thick roots dislike stagnation.
Use an open, epiphytic-style mix:
The goal is rapid drainage with consistent airflow around roots.
Feed lightly with each watering using a balanced, low-EC fertiliser (around 50–75 ppm N). Flush the pot thoroughly about once a month to prevent salt build-up that can burn leaf edges.
Encourage vertical or looping growth with a hoop, pole or trellis to highlight the round leaf form and keep long vines organised.
The genus Hoya honours Thomas Hoy, an 18th-century English gardener and botanist. The species name latifolia derives from Latin latus (“broad”) and folium (“leaf”), referring to its wide, substantial foliage.
The cultivar epithet ‘Albomarginata’ means “white-margined,” while “Round Leaf” distinguishes this clone by its circular leaf shape compared with other variegated forms in the same lineage.
Bring calm geometry and refined contrast into your home with Hoya latifolia ‘Albomarginata Round Leaf’ – a plant that grows slowly but always with purpose. Its creamy margins, thick leaves and graceful vines make it a centrepiece for collectors who value shape, texture and patience.
Order your Hoya latifolia ‘Albomarginata Round Leaf’ today and let this elegant variegated Hoya anchor your collection.
