Hoya clemensiorum 'Round Leaf', a unique cultivar of Hoya clemensiorum T.Green, brings a softer touch to the species. Its elongated, oblong leaves end in rounded tips and feature bold, deeply etched veins over an olive-green base. Thick and leathery, the foliage keeps its sculptural look for years. When mature, this climbing beauty produces clusters of creamy-white blooms with pale pink coronas – a refined, exotic detail that elevates any plant collection.
This species originates from the rainforests of Borneo, thriving in warm, humid conditions with bright filtered light. In nature, it climbs tree trunks under high humidity (70 %+) and temperatures around 22 – 30 °C. Indoors, expect growth up to 1 – 1.5 m when supported by a trellis or moss pole, with leaves showing best form under stable care. Like most Hoyas, it produces latex-rich sap, which can irritate if ingested, so keep away from pets and children.
Providing a climbing structure replicates its natural growth pattern and encourages fuller leaves. Consistent conditions lead to better venation and occasional flowering indoors.
The species epithet clemensiorum honors Mary Strong Clemens and Joseph Clemens, prominent plant collectors in Southeast Asia. The “Round Leaf” cultivar name highlights its softer leaf tips compared to the typical sharply pointed foliage of the species. Originally described and published by T.Green, it remains one of the most sought-after Hoyas for enthusiasts.
