Hoya clemensiorum Kalimantan (Clone 1)

Origin of Hoya clemensiorum Kalimantan (Clone 1)

Clone 1 comes from Kalimantan on Borneo, within the native range of Hoya clemensiorum. Its individual selection history is still uncertain.

Care and growing tips for Hoya clemensiorum Kalimantan (Clone 1)

Maintain about 16–24 °C and humidity above 60%, with gentle airflow. Keep temperatures above about 10 °C. Bright indirect light is suitable, with shelter from intense lamps and hot direct sun. Guide the climbing stems onto a secure trellis.

Use chunky mix in a container with drainage holes. Water when it is nearly dry throughout and the pot is light; check deeper in the mix or look through a clear pot to see how much moisture remains. Soak the whole root ball and let excess water escape. Water less often as growth slows and the mix takes longer to dry.

Give balanced orchid fertiliser at moderate strength about every two weeks as new growth develops. Move to a fresh pot one size larger once roots fill the pot.

Root a healthy stem cutting with at least one node in a lightly moist, airy medium. Keep Hoya clemensiorum Kalimantan (Clone 1) warm in indirect light until it is established.

Problems and solutions for Hoya clemensiorum Kalimantan (Clone 1)

• Leaves soften or shrink while the pot is dry: The broad, thick leaves should feel firm when healthy. Check whether the mix around the roots is dry. If the root ball is dry, water thoroughly and drain. If the leaves still wilt after watering, inspect the roots. Avoid repeated watering while the roots are still wet.
• Soft, yellowing leaves while the mix remains wet: Persistent wetness can damage roots. Drain trapped water and inspect roots if decline continues. If you find a small amount of root rot, use a clean, disinfected tool to cut the soft roots back to firm, healthy tissue. Throw away the rotten roots and old mix. Repot in fresh, airy mix, using a clean pot just large enough for the roots that remain. The pot must have drainage holes. If decay is widespread, save only healthy stem cuttings. Discard the plant if no healthy stems remain, and disinfect your tools afterwards.
• White cottony insects around the nodes: Confirm mealybugs beneath the wax and isolate the plant. Remove visible insects with a damp swab or tweezers. Inspect sheltered leaf joints, stems, the pot and any support weekly, removing any mealybugs you find until none remain. If mealybugs persist, use a product approved for home use against mealybugs on indoor ornamental plants in your country. Follow the label for how much to use, where to apply it, when to repeat treatment and all safety precautions.
