‘Golden Mosaic’ has been sold as Ctenanthe pilosa, C. lubbersiana and C. marantifolia. Ctenanthe pilosa is a synonym of C. marantifolia, while the cultivar’s exact species remains uncertain.

In horticulture it is known simply as Ctenanthe ‘Golden Mosaic’. Upright leafy stems rise from spreading rhizomes and carry its bright green-and-yellow pattern.

Insufficient daylight means upright stems stretch, the mosaic looks greener and lower leaves are lost sooner, followed by a strong lean towards the window. The colour pattern belongs to the cultivar or species and cannot be increased by stressing it.

Keeping the tall mosaic clump evenly moist

Keep ‘Golden Mosaic’ evenly but not continuously wet. Once the top 1–3 cm is dry, water thoroughly and allow free drainage. Its taller leafy shoots can dry the pot quickly in warm light, but excess mix around a small root ball may remain wet after the surface looks dry. The spreading rhizomes tolerate neither a bone-dry root ball nor constantly soggy mix. Reduce the dose when conditions slow the plant, and keep a low winter rate only if it continues opening leaves and the pot dries normally.

Move ‘Golden Mosaic’ when the rhizomes have filled the pot or the mix no longer drains and absorbs water evenly. Add just 2–4 cm of width; a deep oversized container leaves wet unused mix beneath the shallow roots.
