Crassula rupestris subsp. marnieriana ‘Hottentot’ stacks pairs of thick rounded leaves tightly along slender stems. Each grey-green leaf partly wraps around the growth, creating a chain of flattened beads.
Fine red edges may trace the smooth succulent surface and become stronger on well-coloured older foliage. Short young stems stand upright because their leaf pairs are packed closely together. As new sections lengthen and gain weight, they bend over the container and turn into trailing ropes. Branches create more of these strands until the plant forms a dense curtain of overlapping chains.
The growing tips remain compact and soft grey-green; older sections feel firmer, show wider gaps and may carry a deeper red flush. These changes make the stacked construction easy to follow along every trail.
