Colocasia esculenta ‘Tropical Storm’ has purple-black leaves split visually by a broad cream to pale-yellow central flare. The light mark follows the midrib and widens irregularly into the surrounding blade, resembling a flash through a dark surface. Fine rippling gives the compact foliage a softly corrugated sheen.
This cultivar branches prolifically from the base and forms a dense clump around 60–75 cm tall and wide. Young leaves begin greener, with the pale centre visible before the rest of the blade deepens towards black. As the clump matures, it carries many dark leaves together, each with its own cream-yellow streak and softly rippled surface. The compact scale keeps these individual flashes closely repeated across the whole plant.
