Codiaeum variegatum ‘Sunny Star’ has long narrow leaves in bright green and lemon yellow. Pale colour follows the midrib, veins and margins, sometimes widening until most of a blade becomes yellow. The foliage stays glossy and leathery, with smooth edges and sharply tapered tips.
This cultivar keeps a fresh green-and-yellow palette as the shrub develops. Opening leaves are lime-toned and softer; their separate stripes and patches become clearer after the blades firm. Short side branches pack the upright shrub with narrow glossy foliage and give ‘Sunny Star’ its compact, bushy habit. On an older plant, dark green leaves deepen the background while yellow-rich blades and lime new growth keep the active tips bright.
