Calamondin produces masses of small, round fruit that ripen from green through yellow-orange to deep orange. Each fruit has thin fragrant skin and sharply acidic, juicy flesh. Small white flowers are strongly scented and may appear in several flushes, so blossom, green fruit and ripe fruit often share the plant.
Narrow oval leaves are smaller and more densely set than those of most lemons and oranges, giving the crown a fine texture. The naturally compact tree develops a columnar to rounded shape and can be maintained around 1–1.5 m in a container. Mature fruit is usually 3–4 cm across and may remain on the branches while another flowering flush begins.
