Begonia rex 'Lion Dance' is an eye-catching foliage cultivar that sets itself apart with leaves shaped like miniature maple leaves. Their silver bases are patterned with bold dark green veining, centres, and edges, producing a dramatic layered effect. Compact in size but rich in ornamental value, 'Lion Dance' brings a refined texture and contrast to any indoor plant collection.
Rex Begonias trace back to Begonia rex Putz., native to the shaded, humid understories of northeast India and southern China. 'Lion Dance' is a cultivated variety selected for its maple-shaped foliage and bold silver-and-green contrast, offering a unique silhouette compared to other painted-leaf Begonias.
'Lion Dance' maintains its foliage year-round indoors. New leaves emerge regularly from rhizomes, forming a compact clump. Its distinct maple-like leaf shape and silver-green contrasts make it particularly effective as a display plant in decorative containers.
The genus Begonia was named in the 18th century by Charles Plumier, honouring Michel Bégon (1638 – 1710), a French administrator and amateur botanist. 'Lion Dance' continues this lineage as a modern decorative cultivar with unique maple-like foliage.
With silver maple-like leaves accented by dark green veins and edges, Begonia rex 'Lion Dance' offers a striking silhouette and refined contrast. Order today and make this unique Begonia the centrepiece of your foliage display.
