Begonia peltata carries shield-shaped leaves coated in a fine fuzz, giving the foliage a muted matte finish and a distinctly softer look than glossy or metallic begonias. The plant grows on upright, slightly woody stems, so although the leaves are tactile and rounded, the overall habit remains tidy and architectural rather than sprawling.
Bright indirect light suits it well, and its tolerance for more ordinary room humidity makes it somewhat easier than many moisture-hungry species, as long as the substrate drains well and is allowed to dry a little near the top between waterings. A slightly gritty organic mix reflects its preference for better root aeration, and moderate pruning keeps the stems fresh and balanced. It is a good fit for growers who want unusual texture and a clear, structured silhouette without having to maintain terrarium-level humidity.
