The “Black Anthurium” name refers mainly to its unusually dark purple or violet flower spathe, which can appear almost black, not to black leaves. Mature plants can reach around 80–100 cm high and wide. Established specimens combine substantial glossy foliage with the deep colour of their inflorescences.
Anthurium watermaliense produces glossy green leaves with broad lobes and a firm, leathery texture. Young foliage is brighter and softer, then becomes darker, thicker and more reflective as it matures.
