Anthurium ‘Big Bill’ is a large-growing Anthurium with long green leaves that become strongly pendant as the plant matures. Young plants start with a compact central crown and shorter leaves, then gradually develop the wide, hanging form seen on older plants.
As the plant grows, give the leaves enough room to hang freely. A sturdy pot helps once the leaves get longer and heavier. Place it where the leaves can drop naturally, clear of shelves, walls and nearby plants.
Established plants can produce raspberry-toned Anthurium inflorescences and matching fruit. The long pendant leaves remain the main feature indoors.
Keep away from pets and children; plant material can irritate the mouth, throat, skin and eyes if eaten or handled roughly.
Anthurium ‘Big Bill’ is commonly sold with a space in the name, while the registered cultivar spelling is Anthurium ‘Bigbill’. It is a hybrid from the Anthurium pendulifolium × Anthurium plowmanii line, released in 1999 and named after Bill Rotolante’s college nickname. In Anthuriums, the “tail” in the genus name refers to the spadix, the central spike in the flower structure.
