Echinoagave stricta forms a dense near-spherical rosette made from scores of narrow, rigid leaves. Each blade is dark to blue-green, finely lined and drawn to a sharp brown terminal point. Their radial arrangement builds a bristling pincushion shape, with fine pointed foliage defining the surface from every angle.
The first rosette is small and starry, with relatively few leaves. Mature specimens become rounder and much more crowded, eventually reaching roughly 50 cm across and sometimes forming offsets around the base. The blades stay slender as the plant enlarges, so its texture becomes progressively fine and dense. Older plants can produce a very tall flower spike, dramatically extending the scale of the compact rosette below.
