Pinus pinea 'Silver Crest' is a compact Mediterranean pine with soft silvery-green needles and a naturally rounded, architectural canopy that makes it useful far beyond the holiday season. It is slow to moderate in growth and usually reaches about 1–1.5 m in containers, so it works on terraces, balconies, patios, or as a temporary indoor Christmas tree if moved in and out with care.
Full sun and a very free-draining soil are essential for long-term health, while heat and short dry spells are generally tolerated once the roots are established.
In pots, a container of around 40–50 cm across gives it room to settle. During indoor holiday use, keep it away from radiators, maintain even moisture without waterlogging, and re-acclimate it gradually to cooler conditions afterwards.
