Succulent Substrate Set – mineral add-ins for indoor succulents

Succulent Substrate Set is designed to turn ordinary potting soil into a more mineral-leaning mix for many indoor succulents. It suits common succulents grown in pots on bright windowsills.

It is not intended as a specialist Lithops or mimicry-plant recipe; those usually need an even higher mineral share.

Blending notes

Blend the ingredients evenly through the potting volume; a base layer alone will not change how the root zone behaves.
Use a higher mineral fraction for cooler rooms or larger pots, and a slightly higher organic share for very warm, fast-drying spots.
Water fully, then allow a proper dry-down before watering again.

Small details

A good mix helps, but pot size and light still matter. Overpotting will keep even a mineral mix wet for too long.

Use notes

This set is meant to make mixing easier. Use it as a full recipe or as a starting point you can adjust with extra mineral or organic components.

If you repot multiple plants, mix small batches first so you can tune the texture and drying rate to each pot and root system.

Match chunk size to pot size: smaller pots need finer structure.

Safety & storage

A set gives you consistent components, but you still need to match the final mix to the plant, pot size and your home conditions.

Use finer structure for smaller pots.
Increase mineral content if you need faster drying.
Increase organic content slightly if the mix dries too quickly.

For a mineral-leaning mix, measure by volume and use this as a starting point for many common indoor succulents.

Start with: 2 parts Universal Soil, 2 parts perlite and 3 parts Lava Rock Granules.
Add more base: Use slightly more Universal Soil for young succulents, tiny pots or warm spaces where pots dry very quickly.
Make it more mineral: Use more Lava Rock Granules and perlite in plastic pots, cooler rooms, lower light or homes where substrate stays damp too long.

Succulent is a broad category, so this is not one recipe for every dry-adapted plant. Lithops, Pleiospilos and similar mimicry succulents need Lithops & Split Rock Mix. Jungle cacti and epiphytic succulents may need a different balance than rosette succulents, Aloe, Haworthia or Crassula.
