Semi-Hydro Mix – inert substrate for reservoir-based growing
Semi-Hydro Mix gives roots a mineral framework with air pockets and access to a controlled reservoir. It is a system choice, not just a different bag of soil.
More to know
- Inert mineral base: does not behave like soil
- Reservoir use: works with suitable semi-hydro containers
- No built-in feed: requires a measured nutrient routine
- Reusable structure: can be cleaned and reused where appropriate
How to get started
Because the medium is inert, nutrients must come from the solution. Use a fertiliser suited to the setup and keep strength appropriate for the plant and stage of adaptation.
Transition notes
Some plants adapt easily; others stall or lose old roots during transition. Start with healthy plants and monitor roots closely during the first weeks.
Key points
This mix is built around structure first. Use it as a complete potting mix, or blend it into a base soil to adjust airflow and drying speed.
Watering should match the pot size and root mass. Check moisture at depth and adjust your routine after the first few cycles.
Mixing guide
- Moisten dry components before potting so the mix settles evenly.
- Choose pot size for the root ball, not for the top growth.
- Top-dress with the same mix to reduce surface compaction.
