Seeding & cutting soil

• Base materials: fine white and black peat, peat fibres, marl, perlite and coconut fibre for a soft, even structure.
• Added perlite: improves aeration so new roots do not sit in compact, wet compost.
• Balanced fertiliser: contains NPK 12-14-24 to support early growth in a controlled way.
• pH range: optimised at around 5.3–6.4 for germination and young root systems.
• EC: approximately 0.5 mS/cm, low enough for sensitive seedlings and cuttings.

This composition gives a fine, springy texture that is easy to moisten evenly and provides a gentle environment for early root development.

• Fill containers: loosely fill pots, trays or modules with Seeding & Cutting Soil and level the surface without compacting it hard.
• Pre-moisten: water gently until the mix is evenly moist but not dripping; let excess drain before sowing or inserting cuttings.
• Sowing seeds: place seeds at the recommended depth, cover lightly with soil if needed and mist the surface to settle everything in place.
• Planting cuttings: make small holes with a dibber or pencil, insert cuttings so nodes sit in the mix and firm very lightly around the stem.
• Moisture control: keep the substrate consistently moist, not soaked – aim for slightly damp when you touch the surface.
• Light & temperature: provide bright, indirect light and a stable, warm environment to encourage fast rooting and germination.
• Potting on: once roots are well developed and plants outgrow the tray or pot (usually after 4–6 weeks), move them into a more nutrient-rich, structured potting mix suited to the species.

• Can I use this for all cuttings and seedlings? It is suitable for most ornamental and many edible seedlings and cuttings; very demanding species may still need species-specific mixes.
• How often should I water? Keep the surface from drying out completely but avoid leaving the substrate saturated; frequency depends on tray size, light and temperature.
• Do I need extra fertiliser? Early on, the built-in nutrients are enough. Once seedlings have several true leaves or cuttings are well rooted, you can begin light feeding or pot on.
• When do I switch to regular potting soil? Typically after 4–6 weeks, or when roots hold the plug together firmly and growth noticeably speeds up.
• Is this mix organic? It contains natural components like peat and coconut fibre, plus added NPK fertiliser to support predictable early growth.
