Prayer Plant Substrate Set – soft-textured materials for prayer plant roots

Prayer Plant Substrate Set is designed for plants that prefer steady moisture but still need oxygen in the pot. The recipe direction is not about making a wet substrate; it is about giving fine roots an even, breathable medium.

Setup and use

The set works best for indoor containers where the potting mix should remain lightly damp, not saturated. Water movement should be even from top to bottom, with enough perlite to avoid a compacted fine layer.

Details

Succulents, Lithops and other lean-substrate plants need a much grittier profile. For those, use a mineral-led mix instead of this moisture-buffering set.

Using it indoors

This set is meant to make mixing easier. Use it as a full recipe or as a starting point you can adjust with extra mineral or organic components.

If you repot multiple plants, mix small batches first so you can tune the texture and drying rate to each pot and root system.

Keep the texture fine and measure by volume. Prayer plant roots usually need steadier contact than a chunky aroid mix provides.

Start with: 3 parts Seedling & Cutting Soil, 3 parts coco coir, 2 parts perlite and ½–1 part vermiculite.
Use less vermiculite: Choose ½ part in plastic pots, cachepots, cooler rooms, lower light or higher humidity.
Use the full amount: Move closer to 1 part only where small pots dry quickly or growing conditions are warm and bright.
If it stays too wet: Increase perlite slightly rather than turning the mix bark-heavy or very chunky.

The finished mix should feel softer and more even than an aroid blend, but still lighter than dense potting soil.
