Phoenix roebelenii is the pygmy date palm, a smaller feather palm with fine arching fronds and a slender trunk that can look gently curved with age. Young plants are often grown as close groups for a fuller crown, giving the pot a layered palm shape. It keeps the date-palm look in a smaller container-grown plant. Bright light, drainage and careful watering maintain the fine fronds. Basal leaflet spines can be sharp.
