Nepenthes ‘Mojito’ is a modern recreation of the legendary Victorian hybrid Nepenthes × ‘Dyeriana’ [(northiana × curtisii) × (rafflesiana × veitchii)], first made in the 1880s. This revival pays tribute to one of the earliest and most celebrated Nepenthes crosses, bringing its ornate coloration and bold form into today’s collections.
The original N. × ‘Dyeriana’ was created by Veitch Nurseries in the late 19th century, combining four iconic species. It became a showpiece in Victorian glasshouses and set the standard for ornamental Nepenthes breeding. ‘Mojito’ revives this lineage for modern growers, echoing the grandeur of its 19th-century predecessor.
Nepenthes ‘Mojito’ is more than just a hybrid–it is a living homage to one of the first great horticultural crosses. Its striped peristomes and shifting colors make it a centerpiece plant, especially in hanging or tall displays where pitchers can cascade naturally.
The genus name Nepenthes comes from Greek ne (“not”) and penthos (“sorrow”), referencing the mythical potion nepenthe said to banish grief. The hybrid epithet ‘Mojito’ is a modern cultivar name, chosen for its lively character and striking visual flair.
Few Nepenthes hybrids carry such history. With its striped yellow peristome, red mottling, and Victorian pedigree, Nepenthes ‘Mojito’ is both a horticultural icon and a striking display plant for modern collections.
