Musa acuminata 'Dwarf Cavendish' has the broad, paddle-shaped leaves and strong central pseudostem of a classic banana, held on a shorter, stockier form than taller Cavendish clones. “Dwarf” is relative rather than miniature: a mature plant still develops a substantial leafy crown. Fresh leaves rise vertically as tightly rolled spears before unfurling and settling into the surrounding spiral.
The trunk-like column is formed by overlapping leaf bases rather than wood. Below it, the underground stem produces suckers and allows the plant to develop as a renewing clump. A pseudostem that reaches maturity can flower and carry a bunch of fruit once; after that cycle it declines, while younger shoots continue the plant's growth.
