Marcgravia sp. El Coca is an exceptionally rare terrarium plant that offers a striking display of velvety leaves with deep maroon undersides and intricate silver venation. Almost never offered for sale, this elegant species rapidly becomes a standout piece in any terrarium. In its juvenile phase, it grows as a shingler, eventually developing larger, pendulous branches with dramatic foliage. With proper care and optimal conditions, this highly sought-after plant thrives and quickly transforms its container into a mini tropical paradise.
Marcgravia sp. El Coca originates from humid tropical regions and is ideally suited for terrarium culture. It requires an environment that replicates a shaded, moist forest understory with abundant diffused light.
The genus Marcgravia is named in honor of Georg Marcgrave, a 17th-century German naturalist renowned for his work documenting the flora of Brazil. The epithet “El Coca” refers to the region in Colombia where this species is found, highlighting its unique local origin. Together, these names underscore both the rich botanical history and the distinctive geographical identity of this rare plant.
