Goeppertia (Calathea) roseopicta 'Angela' is a rose-painted prayer plant with rounded leaves in soft green, pink and burgundy tones. The upper side usually shows a pink midrib, darker green framing and paler pink-green markings that become clearer as the leaf opens. The undersides are purple to burgundy, so the plant shows extra colour when the leaves lift in the evening.
'Angela' grows from a short rhizome and slowly fills out as a leafy clump. New leaves rise on individual petioles from the base, first rolled, then opening into broad oval blades. Over time, the plant gains width and density, with new shoots adding fresh pattern through the centre and around the sides of the pot.
Goeppertia roseopicta belongs to Marantaceae, the prayer plant family. Calathea roseopicta is the older synonym. The species is native from western South America to western Brazil, where it grows in wet tropical conditions.
'Angela' has leaves built for filtered light, fine roots that need moisture and air in the mix, and thin edges that react quickly to dry air. Evening leaf movement is normal for this group and does not mean the plant is wilting.
Keep the potting mix evenly moist, humidity steady and placement stable while new leaves are forming. Wipe dust from the leaves with a soft damp cloth so the pattern stays clear and early pest signs are easier to spot.
Goeppertia (Calathea) roseopicta 'Angela' is generally considered pet-safe, with Calathea spp. listed as non-toxic to cats and dogs. Keep it away from pets that chew plants often, because swallowed plant material can still cause mild digestive upset.
Goeppertia honours Heinrich Göppert, a German botanist and paleobotanist. The older genus name Calathea is generally derived from Greek kalathos, meaning a basket or basket-like vessel. The species epithet roseopicta means “rose-painted”, referring to the pink-toned markings of this species group.
Goeppertia roseopicta 'Angela' has rounded leaves with soft pink markings, burgundy undersides and a compact clumping shape.
