Ficus elastica ‘Shivereana Moonshine’, also seen as Ficus elastica ‘Schrijveriana’ or ‘Moonshine’, is a pale marbled rubber plant with creamy margins and grey-green mottling across thick glossy leaves. Darker green patches break up the surface, while the underside can show red-toned midribs and leaf stalks.
No two leaves develop exactly the same pattern. Its pale marbling is much lighter than dark rubber plant foliage, so dust, water marks, scorch and pest damage show quickly.
This plant is commonly sold as Ficus elastica ‘Shivereana Moonshine’. It may also appear as Ficus elastica ‘Schrijveriana’, Ficus elastica ‘Moonshine’ or Ficus shivereana ‘Moonshine’.
The pale parts mark quickly in harsh sun or dry heat. Keep it in bright filtered light, where new leaves can open without scorch marks.
Ficus elastica is native from Nepal to western Yunnan and western Malesia, where it grows in wet tropical conditions. In that natural range, the species can become a large tree. Indoors, ‘Shivereana Moonshine’ remains container-sized, with woody stems and thick evergreen leaves.
Cut or damaged tissue releases white latex. It can irritate skin and eyes, and pets may develop mouth or digestive irritation after chewing leaves or stems. Keep the plant away from chewing pets and children, wear gloves when pruning and wash away sap promptly.
This cultivar belongs to Ficus elastica Roxb. ex Hornem. The name elastica refers to its white latex.
‘Shivereana Moonshine’ is the pale marbled form, with creamy margins and red-toned leaf undersides.
