Ficus benjamina 'Natasja' is a dwarf cultivar of the Java Fig, offering a perfect blend of compact structure and lush, tropical greenery. With finely pointed glossy leaves and a soft weeping form, this variety is ideal for small interiors, desks, or shelf displays.
The species Ficus benjamina L., officially published in Mantissa Plantarum 1: 129 (1767), is native to Southeast Asia and northern Australia. It naturally occurs from sea level up to around 900 m in humid tropical forests, often starting epiphytically before rooting terrestrially.
The Java Fig is distributed widely across India, Indonesia, Papua New Guinea, and northern Australia. In the wild, it colonizes riverbanks, forest margins, and disturbed woodlands. While young plants can grow epiphytically on tree trunks, mature specimens root into the ground and develop into large trees.
Ficus benjamina produces a milky latex sap that can cause skin irritation and is toxic if ingested by pets or children. Keep out of reach and wear gloves when pruning if sensitive.
Ficus is Latin for “fig.” The species name benjamina references "benzoin" – a resin once extracted from fig relatives and traded as incense. The cultivar name 'Natasja' highlights its decorative, space-saving form developed for ornamental use.
Add calm, structured greenery to your space with this compact, low-maintenance fig. Shop Ficus benjamina 'Natasja' now and enjoy effortless indoor elegance.
