Fargesia robusta 'Formidable' is a clump-forming bamboo with taller upright canes, persistent pale sheaths, and narrow evergreen leaves. Fresh culms stand out clearly before the plant fills into a dense leafy screen, giving this Fargesia more height than softer arching umbrella bamboos. The base remains gathered as new culms rise from the clump. The gathered base and upright culm pattern give large containers and planted screens a clearly vertical bamboo structure. Regular moisture and well-drained soil are important during new cane production.
