Dioscorea sp. Peru is an undescribed climbing yam from Peru that returns each season from a perennial underground rootstock, sending out twining stems with long, narrow leaves marked by soft silver-grey variegation. The growth is seasonal rather than permanent above ground, so annual die-back is normal.
During active growth it prefers bright indirect light or dappled shade, a loose organic substrate that drains well, steady warmth around 18–28 °C, and regular moisture without stagnation. Once the stems die back, watering should be reduced so the dormant rootstock stays on the dry side and avoids rot. A trellis or moss pole helps the vine climb naturally, and light feeding during the growing period can support stronger foliage and longer seasonal growth.
