Citrus maxima, the pomelo, is a strong-growing citrus species known for broad evergreen foliage, fragrant flowers and very large rounded fruit. In pot culture it forms a substantial ornamental citrus shrub or small tree that needs space, high light and steady seasonal care. Grow it in full sun or the strongest available light, using a free-draining citrus substrate and consistent watering while it is producing new leaves, flowers or fruit. Because pomelo prefers warmth, container plants in northern Europe should spend winter in bright conditions above about 10°C with lighter watering while growth slows.
