Chamaerops humilis, the Mediterranean fan palm, is a clumping palm with stiff fan-shaped leaves, fibrous stems and a naturally robust outline. Native to the western and central Mediterranean region, it is adapted to strong light and lean, well-drained soils. In containers, grow it in very bright light to gentle direct sun once acclimated, using a mineral-leaning palm mix and watering as the top layer dries. Fast drainage and careful winter moisture support healthy roots. Its compact fan shape brings firm texture to bright containers, conservatories and sheltered seasonal outdoor settings with good airflow.
