‘Raindance’ is a stable Rex Cultorum clone recognised by large blades and loose green, red, pink, silver and maroon patches. Begonia rex supplies the principal wild background to the group from humid, shaded eastern Himalayan sites and contributes to the group’s cultivated diversity.

Successive crosses added tropical rhizomatous Begonia species to the lineage; growers selected the resulting seedlings for stable characters such as large blades. This cultivar exists only in cultivation; vegetative propagation preserves its growth habit together with loose green, red, pink, silver and maroon patches.

Light

Keep Begonia ‘Raindance’ (Rex Cultorum Group) at an east window. A south or west window also works from 0.5–1.5 m back, provided hot sun does not reach the leaves. Acclimate it gradually, since sudden intense exposure means metallic and pale zones bleach first, followed by dry brown margins. If the room is too dim, the petioles elongate, the crown leans and new leaves are smaller with flatter colour contrast. The plant's normal growth carries the flowing silver-green leaf pattern. Compact leaves and clear markings indicate suitable light. Stronger exposure increases the risk of scorch. More sun is not better once growth is compact and colour is clear.

Watering

‘Raindance’ combines rainfall with dance, creating an image of moving droplets or shimmering wet colour. It is an evocative cultivar name referring to movement and rain imagery.

The Rex Cultorum Group gathers complex ornamental hybrids selected chiefly for foliage. Begonia rex was an important early ancestor, and later breeders added other species to the lineage.
