Begonia masoniana 'Mountain' takes the familiar Iron Cross pattern and scales it up, producing larger, heavily textured leaves with deep red margins around the dark central marking. The bigger blades make it more dramatic than smaller forms, but it still grows from rhizomes and stays low enough to suit shelves or wide, shallow containers rather than tall floor pots.
Bright filtered light supports the gloss and colour, while a loose, organic, well-drained substrate keeps the rhizomes active without turning them soggy. High humidity helps preserve the edges and overall leaf finish, especially while new growth is expanding. It is best treated as a foliage specimen, not a fast filler plant: stable warmth, even moisture, and a little patience are what produce the oversized leaves that distinguish it from tighter, more compact selections in the same group.
