Begonia 'Boomer' is a bold rhizomatous hybrid, created from a cross between Begonia reniformis and Begonia solimutata. This hybrid combines the robustness of its parent species with unique ornamental qualities. Its leaves are broad and deep green, edged with a dramatic burgundy margin, and carry a rough, textured surface that gives the plant a rugged appeal. Known for its potential to grow to a very large size, 'Boomer' is a commanding foliage Begonia best suited as a specimen plant.
This hybrid was developed from two distinct species: Begonia reniformis, known for its durability and rounded leaves, and Begonia solimutata, valued for its patterned foliage. 'Boomer' inherits size and vigour from its lineage, making it one of the more dramatic foliage Begonias in cultivation.
'Boomer' grows steadily from rhizomes and is capable of reaching impressive size under ideal conditions. Its large leaves make it best suited for spacious interiors, conservatories, or as a focal plant in a foliage collection. Regular pruning of old leaves helps maintain shape and encourages new growth.
The genus Begonia was established in the 18th century by Charles Plumier, named after Michel Bégon (1638 – 1710), a French administrator and amateur botanist. 'Boomer' continues this legacy as a modern hybrid designed for scale and presence.
With oversized deep-green leaves edged in burgundy and a rugged texture, Begonia 'Boomer' is a hybrid built for impact. Order today and let this dramatic plant become the centrepiece of your foliage collection.
