Begonia amphioxus produces narrow, translucent leaves that taper sharply at both ends and are lined and spotted in deep red, giving the whole plant a lit-from-within quality under terrarium light. It is a true high-humidity species from Borneo and behaves like one, preferring constant warmth, bright but indirect light, and a fine, very airy substrate that stays just moist rather than wet.
Because the leaves are thin and delicate, dry air, mineral-heavy water, or sudden drafts show quickly as browning or collapse. A shallow pot or enclosed setup suits it better than a large open planter, and wide, humid containers let the roots stay active without being buried in cold, wet compost.
Its real value lies in the combination of intense red markings, transparency, and compact size, all of which are easiest to preserve in stable cabinet or terrarium conditions.
