Astrophytum COKabuto forms a low, star-shaped body divided into broad ribs. White flecking breaks across the green surface, with density and arrangement varying markedly between individual plants.
Young plants begin round and relatively smooth. Their ribs broaden and separate more clearly as the body gains diameter, while new tissue develops its own balance of green surface and pale markings. Rib number, areole wool, flecking and final outline can all vary. Mature plants may open yellow flowers from the woolly centre.
