• Keep water out of the crown: Pour water evenly through the mix when the upper root zone begins to dry, then let the pot drain fully. Remove any water left between the central leaf bases.
• Use a stable pot and an open mix: A bark-rich mix with coco husk and pumice or perlite gives the roots moisture and air. Keep the crown level with the top of the mix and choose a pot that will not tip as the rosette widens.

Common problems with Anthurium ‘Neo-superbum’

• The centre becomes soft or smells stale: Water may be sitting in the crown, or the root zone may be staying wet for too long. Empty the centre, remove loose decaying material and check whether the crown and roots are firm. • Brown tips develop on otherwise firm leaves: Uneven watering and a build-up of mineral or fertiliser salts can cause similar damage. Check moisture deeper in the pot, stabilise the watering rhythm and flush the mix with low-mineral water.
• No new leaf appears from the centre: Check that the crown is firm. Move the plant into brighter filtered light if the position is dim, keep it above 15 °C and extend the watering interval if the mix stays wet for a long time. Wait for fresh root or leaf activity before increasing fertiliser.
• Cottony clusters or fixed brown bumps appear between the leaf bases: Isolate the plant and identify mealybugs or scale. How the name Anthurium came about

The genus name Anthurium combines Greek anthos, “flower”, and oura, “tail”, referring to the tail-like spadix.
