Trachycarpus fortunei
Trachycarpus fortunei is a fan palm with green pleated leaves and a solitary trunk covered in coarse brown fibre from old leaf bases. Long leaf stalks hold the divided fans in a rounded crown above the increasingly visible trunk.
Young plants build a dense crown before the trunk becomes obvious. Mature specimens develop a taller column of persistent fibres below the spreading fans, creating a clear contrast between the rough vertical base and broad green canopy.
