Reading the core sample
- Depth check: Look at the sample from the bottom of the pot, not just the surface layer.
- Multiple spots: Test in a few areas—edges can dry faster than the centre.
- Act on it: If the core is dry, water deeply; if it is cool and damp, wait.

- Clean: Tap out substrate, then wipe the tool clean after use.
- No soaking: A quick wipe is enough; let the wood dry fully.
- Storage: Store dry so the finish stays smooth and the tool stays accurate.
