Cryptolaemus montrouzieri – Specialist Larvae for Mealybug Colonies
This is a focused live-predator product for mealybug colonies. It is most useful when mealybugs are hiding in the awkward places: dense foliage, stem joints, leaf axils, and clustered cottony patches.
Core details
- Mealybug specialist: aimed at eggs, nymphs, and other soft stages inside active colonies.
- Practical format: 1 pouch with 30 larvae and 3 release boxes for easier placement near the infestation.
- Good for dense plants: useful where manual wiping or broad spraying misses too much.
Using it day to day
- Release the larvae as soon as possible after arrival.
- Place the release boxes close to active colonies.
- If the infestation is very heavy, reduce the worst clusters first and then release the larvae.
- Repeat if pressure remains high.
Details
- Minimum temperature: about 16 °C
- Best performance: warmer conditions, especially around the low-to-mid twenties
- Target pest: mealybug colonies; choose a different beneficial for aphids, fungus gnats or spider mites
How to set it up
Use it early, while pest pressure is still manageable. Consistent placement and timing matters more than changing products frequently.
Combine with basic hygiene: remove heavily damaged leaves, isolate affected plants, and check neighbouring pots so you treat the full area.
Extra notes
- Follow the product instructions for placement and temperature range.
- Avoid spraying oils or soaps on release days unless the supplier confirms compatibility.
- Repeat checks weekly until new damage stops.
