Peperomia orba 'Pixie Lime' is a miniature cultivar prized for its subtle lime-green variegation and compact form. With its small fleshy leaves streaked by darker green veins, this variety adds refined texture and color to any plant collection. Its slow, steady growth makes it ideal for shelves, desks, and terrariums.
This cultivar combines lime-tinted foliage with deep green streaks running lengthwise across each leaf. Unlike bold variegates, 'Pixie Lime' offers a more delicate pattern, making it versatile for design and easy to pair with other plants. Growth stays compact and mounded, rarely exceeding 15 â 20 cm in height.
Peperomia orba has an unusual taxonomic story. The plant is only known from cultivation, and no natural populations have ever been recorded. Botanist G.S. Bunting described the species in 1975 based on cultivated samples at the University of Gothenburg. Because its origin was unknown, he chose the epithet orba, meaning âorphanâ in Latin. Before this, the plant circulated under names like Peperomia âAstridâ, âPrincess Astridâ, âPixieâ, and âTeardropâ.
Overwatering is the main risk, often causing root rot or leaf yellowing. Wrinkled leaves indicate drought stress. Keep the plant away from strong midday sun, which can scorch the delicate lime-toned foliage.
'Pixie Lime' adapts well to terrarium setups, thanks to its compact stature and low water needs. Its slow growth means repotting is rarely necessary, usually only every 2 â 3 years.
The genus name Peperomia derives from Greek peperi (âpepperâ) and homoios (âresemblingâ), referencing its kinship with true black pepper (Piper nigrum). The epithet orba (âorphanâ) reflects its unknown origin. The cultivar name âPixie Limeâ highlights both its petite size and fresh lime-green variegation.
This compact Peperomia cultivar offers understated elegance with its lime-green streaked foliage. Order Peperomia orba 'Pixie Lime' now and enjoy a rare, easy-care plant that thrives even in small spaces.
