Peperomia caperata 'Abricos' is a compact cultivar that brings a softer color palette to the ripple peperomia group. Its short stems hold deeply ridged, heart-shaped leaves with dark green centers framed by powdery, pastel-pink margins. This unique blend of texture and color makes 'Abricos' a refined yet playful choice for collectors and interior plant styling.
This variety stays small, usually 12 â 15 cm tall, forming a rounded clump. The corrugated leaves catch light at different angles, emphasizing both the ripple pattern and the pink edging. While it can produce slender yellow-white flower spikes, its foliage is the real focal point. Thanks to its compact growth, it is ideal for windowsills, desks, or grouped arrangements.
Peperomia caperata was described in 1958 by Truman George Yuncker, building on the earlier work of Ruiz and PavĂłn from the 18th century. The epithet caperata means âwrinkled,â referencing the plantâs ridged foliage. The cultivar name 'Abricos' highlights its delicate pink tones, reminiscent of apricot-colored hues.
Overwatering is the most frequent cause of decline, leading to rot. Too little light may fade the pastel tones, while direct harsh sun can scorch the leaves. Wrinkling or crispy edges usually indicate underwatering.
âAbricosâ is prized for its subtle pink margins, which set it apart from darker or metallic-foliage *caperata* cultivars. Its compact habit makes it easy to display in decorative pots or terrariums. It rarely needs repotting, preferring to stay in snug containers.
The genus name Peperomia was coined by Spanish botanists HipĂłlito Ruiz LĂłpez and JosĂ© Antonio PavĂłn JimĂ©nez in 1794 during their expeditions in Peru and Chile. It derives from Greek peperi (âpepperâ) and homoios (âresemblingâ), a reference to its kinship with black pepper (Piper nigrum). The epithet caperata means âwrinkled.â
With its compact size and pastel-pink leaf edges, Peperomia caperata 'Abricos' is a delicate yet bold foliage plant perfect for collectors. Order now and add this charming ripple peperomia to your collection.
