Coleus scutellarioides 'Le Freak' is a compact cultivar from the Main Street series, bred for its bold contrast of burgundy centers and neon-green margins. With dense, upright growth and excellent heat tolerance, it's a standout foliage plant for bright indoor spaces. Its finely textured leaves and branching habit make it ideal for pots, hanging baskets, or grouped tropical displays.
Originally native to tropical Asia, Coleus scutellarioides grows wild in lowland forests of Southeast Asia, especially in Indonesia, the Philippines, and parts of Myanmar. It prefers humid, semi-shaded environments at elevations up to 1,200 m. 'Le Freak' is a cultivated hybrid derived from this lineage, bred for ornamental performance and indoor resilience.
Coleus plants may cause mild gastrointestinal irritation in pets and are not considered safe for ingestion. Always keep out of reach of pets and children. The sap can cause slight skin irritation in rare cases; wear gloves when propagating.
“Coleus” comes from Greek “koleos,” meaning sheath, referencing its united stamens. The species epithet “scutellarioides” refers to the flower’s resemblance to the genus Scutellaria. 'Le Freak' was named for its playful color contrast and vibrant form, part of the ornamental-focused Main Street series.
Bring home the energetic hues of Coleus scutellarioides 'Le Freak' and transform your indoor space with its wild leaf contrast. Easy care, fast growth, and unforgettable foliage make it an unbeatable choice. Order now and give your collection a bold upgrade!
