Anthurium Soil Mix

Use Anthurium Mix when you want to give Anthuriums a coarse, epiphyte-style substrate that supports strong roots and controlled moisture.

• When to repot: repot when roots circle the pot, when growth slows without another clear cause or when old soil has compacted and no longer drains well.
• Remove old substrate: gently loosen the plant from its pot and take off as much tired mix as you can without tearing healthy roots.
• Rinse and inspect roots: rinse roots under lukewarm water to remove remaining bits of soil, then cut away dead or rotten sections with sterilised scissors.
• Prepare the pot: choose a pot with drainage holes and add a thin base layer of Anthurium Mix to create a supportive foundation.
• Position the plant: place the Anthurium so the root crown sits just below the rim; spread roots gently over the base layer.
• Backfill and settle: gradually add Anthurium Mix around the roots, keeping the structure loose and airy; lightly pat down to stabilise without compressing the substrate.
• First watering: water generously after repotting so the mix settles around the roots and remaining air pockets close.
• Ongoing watering: allow only the top few centimetres to dry between waterings; avoid leaving water in cachepots for long periods so the lower part of the pot does not stay saturated.

Monitor how quickly the mix dries in your conditions and adjust watering frequency rather than volume to keep the root zone well oxygenated.

• Water retention capacity: around 64 %, giving a moist but well-aerated root zone.
• Structural stability: typically 3–4 years indoors before coco coir, coconut husk and bark gradually degrade and drainage slows.
• Bioactive? Yes – compatible with bioactive-style setups when combined with appropriate fauna.
• Pet-safe? No – contains fertiliser, perlite and activated carbon and is not intended for ingestion by pets or children.
