Goeppertia orbifolia is a dramatic statement plant known for its oversized, round leaves and soft silver-green striping. Each leaf emerges tightly furled before unfolding into a satiny disc up to 40 cm wide. With upright stems and gentle nyctinastic movement, this Marantaceae species adds both structure and flow to indoor environments.
In the wild, this species thrives in shaded forest floors with high humidity, warm temperatures, and rich, organic soil. Indoors, it reaches 80 – 100 cm in height and width over time. It is non-toxic to pets and humans.
This species is particularly sensitive to water quality – avoid mineral-heavy tap water. Keep light indirect, conditions stable, and humidity high. Regularly clean the leaves with a soft, damp cloth to support photosynthesis and prevent dust buildup. Consistency is key – avoid environmental stress, and Goeppertia orbifolia will reward you with rhythmic, beautiful new growth.
Formerly known as Calathea orbifolia, this species was reclassified based on molecular data and now belongs correctly to the genus Goeppertia.
Add the bold calm of Goeppertia orbifolia to your collection and enjoy oversized striped leaves, gentle movement, and rainforest vibes all year round. Shop now and grow something truly sculptural.
Your new plant has just travelled a long way and needs a calm start in its new home. For step-by-step unboxing and first-week care, check our after-delivery care guide. For deeper tips on how your plant settles in over the next weeks, read our houseplant acclimatization guide.
