Philodendron sp. nov. lapoanum Croat is a non–yet published new species form Ecuador. Leaf blades are deep mid– to dark–green, long, oblong–hastate, tri–lobed, sub–coriaceous and glossy.
When juvenile anterior and posterior lobes are of similar size. When mature, the anterior lobe is around 10x longer than posterior lobes. It is a scandent Philodendron and will climb given suitable support.
form the Modern Latin genus name Philodendron (Schott, 1830), from Greek philodendron, neuter of philodendrons "loving trees," form philo– "loving" (see philo–) + dendron "tree" (form PIE *der–drew–, form root *deru– "to be firm, solid, steadfast," also forming words for "wood, tree"). The plant so called because it clings to trees.
