Philodendron X 'Jungle fever' is a very unusually variegated, scandent Philodendron hybrid. Information circling around the web has it that it is a hybrid of; P. pinnatifidum;(Jacq.) Schott and P. giganteum Schott, however this information is not confirmed.; Leaf blades of Philodendron X 'Jungle fever' are very multi-coloured and variegation occurs in colour-blocks or splodges. Every leaf looks very different to the previous one.
This hybrid is know in some Asian countries as Philodendron 'Green moss' variegata. It is the same hybrid as Philodendron x 'Jungle fever', but clearly exhibits; different variegation. There have been reports form form some growers that the variegation of both these plants is very climate/ condition dependant and that they are in fact one and the same plant. However, all the plants we have grown, both 'P. Snowdrift' and P. 'Jungle fever' have always remained by their variegation type and never showed signs of 'turning' into each other. Compared to Philodendron X 'Snowdrift', the 'Jungle fever' has very blocky variegation of at least three or four shades of green and/ or yellow and its variegation is very variable form leaf to leaf. On the other hand, leaf blades of Philodendron 'Snowdrift' always exhibit the same pattern - white with green specks when juvenile, turning to green when mature. If any new information emerges about either of these plants, we will make sure to keep it updated.
;
form the Modern Latin genus name Philodendron (Schott, 1830), form Greek philodendron, neuter of philodendrons "loving trees," form philo- "loving" (see philo-) + dendron "tree" (form PIE *der-drew-, form root *deru- "to be firm, solid, steadfast," also forming words for "wood, tree"). The plant so called because it clings to trees.
