Lithops and Split Rock Soil Mix

Lithops Mix - The Perfect Well-Draining Soil for Living Stones

Sybotanica’s SYBASoil-Series Lithops Mix is a fast-draining, low-nutrient soil blend designed to replicate the rocky, arid environments where Lithops, Pleiospilos, and other mesembs naturally thrive. It ensures optimal drainage, aeration, and minimal moisture retention, preventing root rot while mimicking their desert habitat.

  • Dries out quickly to prevent overwatering
  • Low-nutrient mix for compact, healthy growth
  • Replicates rocky desert environments for optimal adaptation
  • Long-lasting and stable - maintains structure for 5+ years

How to Use Lithops Mix

💡 Tip: Lithops are highly sensitive to overwatering. Only water when their leaves start wrinkling, and stop completely in winter.

Why Choose SYBASoil Lithops Mix?

→ 🌵 Optimized for Arid Conditions

  • Drains extremely fast due to high pumice content.
  • Horticultural sand adds weight, keeping plants stable in their pots.

→ 💧 Minimal Moisture Retention

  • Only 4% water retention capacity - prevents Lithops from sitting in damp soil.
  • A small amount of worm castings helps retain minimal moisture when needed.

→ 🌍 Mimics Natural Habitat

  • Lithops originate from rocky deserts with very little organic matter.
  • This mix provides the ideal mineral-based structure for root health and flowering.

→ 🐾 Not Pet-Safe

  • Contains fertilizer and activated carbon, which may be harmful if ingested.

Repotting Your Lithops with SYBASoil Lithops Mix

  • Remove old soil - Gently squeeze the pot to loosen the plant.
  • Rinse the roots - Use lukewarm water to clear excess soil.
  • Trim dead foliage - Carefully remove dry or dead leaves if needed.
  • Prepare the new pot - Add a thin layer of Lithops Mix at the base.
  • Position your Lithops - Place it just above the surface, then add Lithops Mix around it.
  • Lightly pat down - Do not compact the soil to maintain proper drainage.
  • Water sparingly - Only when the leaves wrinkle, and avoid watering in winter.

💡 Tip: Use a shallow pot with drainage holes to further prevent moisture buildup.

What Makes Lithops Mix So Effective?

  • Prevents overwatering and root rot - Drains faster than standard succulent soil.
  • Encourages compact, stress-resistant growth - Mimics harsh desert conditions.
  • Minimizes nutrient buildup - Lithops thrive in nutrient-poor soil.
  • Supports flowering - Can be fertilized sparingly during bloom season.

💡 Tip: For extra drainage, mix in more pumice or crushed lava rock as needed.

  • Repotting your Lithops and Split Rock plants with the right soil mix is easy and essential for their growth. Start by removing as much old soil as possible to create a fresh, healthy environment. Gently squeeze the pot while holding it sideways to loosen the plant.

Rinse the roots under lukewarm water to remove any remaining soil. This helps the plant adjust to its new growing medium. Use clean scissors to trim away any dead or dying foliage to encourage healthy growth.

Now, it’s time to plant! Add a small layer of Lithops and Split Rock soil mix to the bottom of the pot. Carefully place the plant inside, ensuring the roots are positioned properly. Slowly fill in the sides with more of the soil mix until the roots are just covered.

Lightly press the soil down to remove air pockets. After repotting, water the soil thoroughly to help settle the roots and ensure a stable environment for your plant.
