Colocasia esculenta 'Tropical storm'

Colocasia esculenta 'Tropical storm' is a compact, vigorous elephant ear selection resulting from a controlled cross between the C. esculenta cultivars 'Black Magic' and 'Nancy's Revenge'. It features 20 cm long, dark purple-black leaves with contrasting creamy white centers. The leaf margins are also slightly wavy. Mature plants can reach up to 65 cm tall with an equal spread. The typical aroid-type inflorescence is not particularly showy. This plant is protected by patent number PP28567.

The generic name is derived from the ancient Greek word kolokasion, which in Greek, botanist Dioscorides (1st century AD) may have inferred the edible roots of both Colocasia esculenta and Nelumbo nucifera.
