Ficus microcarpa 'Compacta'is a cultivar of Ficus microcarpa L.fil.It is grown primarily as a bonsai or semi-bonsai tree. The thick shiny evergreen leaves generously cloth the long branches. The dense rounded canopy and gracefully drooping branches make it ideal for bonsai.
Genus name c. 1400, from Latin ficus "fig, fig tree" (see fig). With capital letter, as the name of a large genus of trees and shrubs, chosen by Linnaeus (1753).
